Party Time! How to Make Holiday Mulled Wine
Take a break from egg nog this year and treat yourself to this warming beverage
It’s Christmas Eve today, and chances are your agenda is full of get-togethers with friends and loved ones. Whether you’re hosting or attending, add a unique flavor to any party with this mulled wine recipe from Jacques Porcheron, our chef in Provence. It’s easy, tasty, and will make your home smell wonderful; in other words, it’s exactly what you want to sip when the weather outside is frightful.
Ingredients (Serves 5):
♦ 1 bottle red wine – preferably Merlot
♦ 100ml cognac
♦ 100ml Grand marnier
♦ 1 orange
♦ 1 lemon
♦ 75g sugar
♦ 1 whole clove
♦ 2 star anise pods
♦ 1 cinnamon stick
♦ 1 Cardamon pod
♦ 5 whole black pepper corns
Method:
Peel and slice the orange and lemons and place in a large, heavy-bottomed pan over a low heat (if you have a Le Creuset, now’s the time to use it). Add sugar and spices then slowly stir in the red wine. Once all of the red wine is in the pan, add the cognac and Grand Marnier. Cook on low for 15 minutes, then pour sieve and serve in your favorite holiday glasses with a slice of fruit. Cheers!
